Celebrate Nacho Day the RIGHT WAY!

They're cheesy, spicy, full of flavor, and sometimes messy, but they are absolutely delicious! Nachos are a family favorite, supposedly most craved by pregnant women, and certainly a food that deserves it's own day. If you're looking for the best place to get nachos at the Lake of the Ozarks, Salsa on the Strip can serve up the best nachos around. Our amazing toppings and fresh ingredients make Salsa on the Strip and ideal place to enjoy your evening.

"Nacho" Ordinary History Lesson

Nachos originated in Piedras Negras, Mexico, which is just across the border from Texas. On a random day in 1943, some American soldiers' wives came into the restaurant of Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya. It was closing time, and there wasn't enough ingredients to make a full meal, but Ignacio did have a few tortillas, some cheese and jalapenos. He tore the tortillas into pieces, and sprinkled the cheese and peppers on top, and stuck in the oven to melt the cheese. The women enjoyed this snack so much, and he called them "Nacho's especiales". Later on "Nacho" opened his own restaurant in Piedras Negras, and called it "Nacho's Restaurant". His original recipe was printed in 1954 in St. Anne's cookbook.

"You put WHAT on your Nachos??"

We're all about piling on the toppings with our nachos! Peppers, rice, cheese, salsa, olives and more. Chicken, beef, pork, and lots of vegetables are all delicious ways to spice up a great plate of chips - but there are a few creative (or weird) people who decided to change up the nachos dramatically. Check out these strange nacho ingredients!

  • Popcorn Nachos
  • Strawberry, Basil and Mascarpone Dessert Nachos
  • Sloppy Joe Nachos with sloppy joe sauce and ground beef.
  • Asparagus and Hollandaise Sauce Nachos
  • Tuna Melt Nachos with Triscuits, tuna, jalapenos and ketchup
  • Sage Brown Butter Artichoke Nachos
  • Potato Nachos - just replace the chips with potato wedges
  • Reuben Nachos - complete with corned beef, swiss, sauerkraut and thousand island.

Salsa on the Strip's Nacho Fillings and Toppings

We have a delicious selection of toppings and fillings that are anything but ordinary. Everything here is full of flavor and spice. Our nachos are made with hot corn or flour chips, and then topped with an array of extras that will make your mouth water! Origin of the Burrito

Beyond the tacos, the nachos, and the infamous margarita, the burrito is a staple item at the best Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks. The exact origin of the burrito is hazy, but there are a few interesting pieces in its long history.  Let's look at those possible origins, and at the history of an American favorite: the Mission Burrito.

Perfect Workplace Food

There are currently two stories that come to mind when the origin of the burrito is questioned.  One is that early Mesoamericans used tortillas to wrap food, with fillings like chilies, mushrooms, avocados, and other vegetables.  The other story begins with the Pueblo people in early Southwestern region of the United States.  Their tortillas held beans and meat sauces which are much closer to the modern style burritos.  Moving forward into the early 19th century, you still have two separate thoughts: Burrito's were created to store food by vaqueros (horse mounted livestock herder) or by the miners in Sonara, California for the same reason: they were easy to eat and then continue working.

The Origin of the Name "Burrito"

Juan Méndez was selling tacos from a stand in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. Allegedly, he used a donkey for transport and to keep the food warm, he would wrap his food in large flour tortillas.  Dubbing the wrapped tacos as a Burrito or food of the little donkey, Méndez soon found out that the name had stuck. The date of this popular folklore legend has been lost in time.

The Birth of the Mission Burrito

The type of burrito known to most Americans originated in the Mission District of San Francisco in the 1960's and 1970's. Mexican taco shops, known as Taquerías, began to create larger than regular burritos and used a steam table assembly method, complete with wrappings in aluminum foil. Popular fillings included carne asada (beef), Mexican style rice, whole beans (non-refried), sour cream and onion.

1970's to the Present

Mission burritos exploded with popularity, and Taquerías across the city began to create them. A few motivated businesses even took the recipe across the American nation. Here at Salsa on the Strip, we've taken the Mission burrito to the next level by offering fresh ingredients, an array of fresh and homemade salsas, with many new fillings to try. of course, the traditional ingredients are always available.

The History of the Burrito is Full of Mystery.

Luckily, at the best Mexican restaurant at Lake of the Ozarks, you can ponder the origins while you bite into a larger than life Mission style burrito. Come and see what makes our restaurant the best place to eat at Lake of the Ozarks. From the food to beverages, and our venue, you'll find a fabulous place all wrapped into one nice little package on the Bagnell Dam Strip. Our upstairs patio and bar area make for a perfect place to sit back and watch the clouds drift by, or see the Strip come to life. Come out and spend a beautiful Autumn evening with us enjoying the best burritos at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Be Hoppy - Drink Beer

There's nothing hoppier than a cold glass of beer, a spicy Salsa Burrito, and a great seat at your favorite bar at the Lake of the Ozarks. At Salsa on the Strip we have 12 different beers on tap, just waiting for you to come enjoy them. Not to mention all of the other liquor we have, vodka, tequila, margaritas and more! Beer is an interesting and unique beverage, so we want to take some time to learn a little more about our favorite drink. Here are 7 fun facts to make you hoppy!

"Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be not way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer." - Dave Barry

1. Ancient Babylonians were the firs to brew this fine beverage. They also took it so seriously that if you brewed a bad batch, they punished you by drowning you in it.

2. Certain water in certain regions can be better suited to making specific types of beer. Dublin's mineral-rich, hard water is great for making Stouts.

3. Storing your beer bottles uprights makes it taste better. It minimizes oxidation and contamination from the cap.

4. Pilgrims on the Mayflower stopped at Plymouth Rock instead of continuing on to Virginia because they ran out of supplies...more importantly, they ran out of beer.

5. In 1814 a brewery tank with 3,500 barrels of beer ruptured, which caused a tidal wave of beer through a London Parish.

6. Cenosillicaphobia is the fear of an empty glass. Never fear, at Salsa on the Strip, we can keep the glass full with the best beer at the Lake of the Ozarks!

7. The Vikings believed that there was a giant goat in Valhalla (viking heaven), who instead of providing milk, provided an endless supply of beer.

Salsa on the Strip

From great food to great beer, we aim to provide you with the best dining experience at the Lake of the Ozarks. Celebrate Mexican Independence Day Today!

Today is the day that Mexico celebrates it's Independence Day! Even though we are in the United States, it's always important to know what our neighbors have gone through to achieve their own independence. Here are a few interesting facts to get you up-to-date on this day in history.
The people of Mexico were rebelling to fight for freedom from the Spaniards. They had been forced into slavery more that 300 years earlier.

There were many conspiracies about rebelling against the Spaniards between 1809-1810 those who were involved and discovered were punished in a harsh manner.

On September 15th, Father Hidalgo received news that he had been found out. He was among those that were involved in conspiracies. This news lead him to take quick action.

Father Miguel Hidalgo, a Roman Catholic Priest, rallied the town people of Dolores, Guananjuato on September 15, 18810 to give them the speech known today as El Grito do Dolores (The Cry of Dolores).

Traveling throughout Mexico, Father Hidalgo had a following of nearly 90,000 poor farmers and Mexican civilians. They united to rebel against the Spanish rule.

October 2nd was the selected date those involved in conspiracies had decided to take action against Spain.

Father Hidalgo was eventually captured and killed in 1811.

After the death of Father Hidalgo in 1811, there were two more significant fights that lead his successors to victory against Spain in 1821.

It took eleven years to defeat the Spaniards. The war for Independence was won in 1821.

Even after victory in 1821, it took Mexico two years for their first presidential election which was held in 1823.

Fun Facts About Labor Day

Happy Labor Day weekend from your favorite Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks! The Lake will be hopping with excitement as people celebrate their three day weekend. How did Labor Day actually start? We have all of the answers for you in this blog. As well as an answer to the biggest question: why don't we wear white afterwords?

The first celebrated US Labor Day was on Tuesday, September 5th, 1882 in New York City, planned by the Central Labor Union.

Oregon was the first state to celebrate Labor Day as a legal holiday in 1887.

There is a disagreement about who actually propose Labor Day as a holiday. Some say it was Peter J. McGuire, who was the co-founder of the American Federation of Labor. Others believe that it was Matthew Maguire, a machinist.

Historians say the expression "no white after Labor Day" comes from when the upper class would return from their summer vacation and stow away their lightweight, white summer clothes as they returned back to school and work.

Americans worked 12-hour days, seven days a week during the 19th century.

The Adamson Act was passed on September 3, 1916 to establish an eight-hour work day.

What do we celebrate on Labor Day? The contributions and achievements of the 155 million men and women who are in the U.S. workforce.

Labor Day is on a Monday because it was thought to be a nice break between Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. The first observance was on a Tuesday, but then moved to Monday the next year where it remained.

President Grover Cleveland was the President when the bill was signed making Labor Day a national holiday in 1894.

Labor Day is celebrated on May 1st in Europe. It's also called International Workers' Day.

The team at Salsa on the Strip would like to wish you a fun, safe Holiday weekend. While you're out having fun this weekend, remember your favorite restaurant when you start to get hungry! We have an amazing menu with burritos, tacos, nachos and salads. The best part is they can all be customized just the way you like them! 10 Fun Facts About Margaritas!

There's nothing quite like a delicious burrito and a margarita! As the best Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, we are definitely qualified in the burrito and margarita department. Where did margaritas start, though? What makes them so popular? We wanted answers to these very important questions, and now we're passing them on to you!

It is believed that the original margarita was invented in 1948, in Aculpulco, by socialite Margarita Sames. There are many different stories floating around about the beginning of the margarita, though.

On average, American consume 185,000 margaritas per hour.

Margarita means daisy in Spanish.

The first frozen margarita machine was invented in 1971 by Mariano Martinez. He converted a soft serve ice-cream machine into a frozen margarita machine!

The salt is important for a good margarita, it brings out the sweet and sour flavors of the drink. Even just a pinch will help with the bitterness and enhance the important flavors.

The world's largest margarita was made in Las Vegas at the Flamingo Hotel. It was 8,500 gallons and served in a 17-foot tall tank. It took 60 people 300 hours to create, and was called the "Lucky-Rita".

The world's most expensive margarita costs $1,200, and you can find it at the 230 Fifth Rooftop Bar in Manhattan. It's made with high-end tequila, and even the ice is made from expensive Lois Roederer Cristal Champagne.  Finally, it's poured in a hand-blown, Ralph Lauren, Hungarian crystal glass that you can take with you. At least half of the money goes to a charity of the drinker's choice!

February 22nd is National Margarita Day.

Atlanta, Miami, St. Louis and Nashville are among the best major metro cities for the Margarita. You can find the best margaritas at the Lake of the Ozarks right here at Salsa on the Strip, though!

The U.S. is the number one tequila market - larger than Mexico!

These are just a few fun facts to get you thinking about margaritas. Of course, now that you're thinking about them, you'll have to come get one...or two! Our restaurant doesn't just have the best margaritas, we also have fabulous burritos, and a wonderful place to come kick back and relax. 5 Fun Mexican Food Facts

At Salsa on the Strip, we obviously LOVE our Mexican food. There are just so many things to love, the flavor, spice, salsa, fillings, tortillas... the list just keeps going on! With our delicious menu, we are a great place to stop and get something to eat this evening. Check out a few of these fun facts before you come!

Not all Mexican food is spicy.

It is actually a myth that all Mexican food is spicy. Though most Mexican dishes are spiced with a pepper, primarily chili, not all peppers are hot. When the seeds are exported to other countries, their flavor profile can change and will result in a sweet, milder chili. Mexican food and flavors are also regional; in Ycatan, the food is not as spicy, and in many cases throughout Mexico the spiciness comes from the salsa.

Chia, tomatoes, vanilla and dragonfruit originated in Mexico.

This may be surprising, but these items are in fact from Mexico. Tomatoes are generally attributed to Italy, but are definitely a tasty gift from Mexico. Mexican vanilla can be a delicious addition to your baking cabinet, with it's strong beautiful flaovr, it is a delicious Mexican ingredient. Though dragonfruit is generally considered Asian, it's Mexican as well.

Desserts are very popular in Mexican cuisine.

In ancient Mexican history, dessert wasn't popular. In fact, sugar came over with the conquerors and after a significant amount of time, delicious Mexican desserts were invented. Now popular desserts are Mexican egg custard and sweet milk curds cooked in syrup. Before sugar came around, their natural fruits were dessert.

Authentic guacamole does not use lime or garlic

A typical recipe for an authentic guacamole includes tomato, white onion, serrano chili or jalapeno, cilantro and salt. These ingredients will be roughly mashed and can include olive oil. Authentic guacamole will never include garlic, lemon, red onion, cumin, cayenne pepper, chili powder or any other spices.

Salsa shows up on every table.

This may not actually be a fact, since it depends on the country or region, but we certainly love our salsa at Salsa on the Strip, so it seems very noteworthy! We have several delicious varieties of salsa that will make your burrito or taco delicious!

That sums up our fun facts about Mexican foods. We would love to share a few more facts with you too, like how Salsa on the Strip is the best restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks! Or maybe you'd like to know that our restaurant has the best burritos at the Lake of the Ozarks. No matter how you decide to spend your evening, you should definitely include our delicious food into your plans. See ya tonight!

Well we're glad you asked! Salsa on the Strip is the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks with many fantastic beers on tap! When you're looking for a good place to enjoy a cold one, watch the game and make some friends, we provide the best place to do just that! We also have tall tables and low, comfy chairs, so you'll find a great place to sit down and enjoy a sip or two. Check out some of the great beers we have on tap at Salsa on the Strip

Modelo - Modelo Especial is a pilsner-style lager. The original recipe was first brewed in Mexico in 1925, trying to create a 'model' beer.

Dos Equis Lager Especial - It is a refreshing, crisp, golden, lager style beer imported from Mexico. Made with roasted malts, choice hops, a unique strain of yeast and purified water.

Dos Equis Amber - Nothing screams Dos Equis Amber than when you're eating some tasty Mexican burritos! This beer is very dark brown with a good amount of froth that dissipates quickly. The scent is strong but not overpowering. With faint hints of malts and barley the taste is magnificent.

Corona Light - This pale lager tastes fantastic in summer, though you can enjoy it all year round! With it's nice golden color and nice carbonation, it is a great summer thirst quencher.

Blue Moon Belgian White - It is brewed with oats for creaminess and spiced with the perfect combination of orange peel and coriander. This unfiltered wheat ale is spiced in the Belgian tradition for an uncommonly smooth taste.

Goose IPA - This beer recalls a time when ales shipped from England to India were highly hopped to preserve their distinct taste during the long journey. The result is a hop lover’s dream with a fruity aroma, set off by a dry malt middle, and long hop finish.

Stella Artois Cidre - This crisp and refreshing Belgian cider is made with hand-picked apples lending to a perfect combination of sour and sweet.

Stella Artois - It has been brewed in Leuven, Belgium, since 1926, although it is also brewed in other locations. This golden beer has nice woody scents lending to a refreshing aroma. The taste is light and smooth.

Leinenkugel Summer Shandy - A shandy is beer mixed with a little something extra like soda, juice or ginger ale. Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy is a traditional weiss beer with refreshing natural lemonade flavor that makes it perfect for the sun-splashed summer months.

Michelob Ultra - This Anheuser-Busch selection is brewed using the finest barley malt, select grains, all-imported hops and a pure-cultured yeast strain. The special choice of grains combined with the extended mashing process produces a smooth, refreshing beer with fewer carbohydrates.

Bud Light - Bud Light is brewed using a blend of premium aroma hop varieties, both American-grown and imported, and a combination of barley malts and rice. Its superior drinkability and refreshing flavor makes it the world’s favorite light beer.

These are the beers we have on tap, but we have such a vast amount of other cold beverages on hand as well! We have a nice selection of vodka, tequila and whisky. When you need to wet your whistle, we have what you need! Our restaurant also specializes in the best burritos at the Lake of the Ozarks, along with several other delicious Mexican dishes. It's National Tequila Day!

As the best Mexican restaurant at the Lake of the Ozarks, we absolutely HAVE to celebrate Tequila day! Our bar is a wonderful place to take a siesta and get a drink any day of the week. We have televisions scattered around the bar upstairs where you can keep up on the game. Grab a shot of tequila and celebrate with these 10 fun facts!

 1. There are five different types of tequila to choose from: Blanco, Joven, Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo.

2. Tequila is made from the blue agave plant. The core of the plant contains "honey water", which is used for syrup (and tequila!) production.

3. Scientists have figured out a way to make artificial diamonds out of tequila. Unfortunately they are too small to be turned into jewelry...but they can be used for an array of electronic and industrial purposes!

4. Over 50 million liters of tequila are consumed every year in America.

5. If you're scared of the worm, don't be! The gusano larvae is found in the "lower-quality" cousin, mezcal. It was also, largely, a marketing ploy, since the gusano larvae is a type of moth that lives on the agave plant.

6. Some tequila is aged in barrels. Depending on the tequila it can take up to 30 YEARS to reach the perfect drinking age!

7. The men who harvest the blue agave for tequila are called Jimadors. They use a "coa" for harvesting which is a machete with circular blades.

8. Tequila has health benefits. By stimulating the appetite when taking a shot before lunch and one after a big dinner. It's also been suggested that tequila can help lower cholesterol.

9. Tequila aficionados don't do shots, instead they sip tequila from a special tequila glass or brandy snifter. The agave flavors and aromas can be properly enjoyed that way.

10. A bottle of tequila can last for years when unopened, but once you open a bottle you have one to two months before the agave profile is destroyed.

We think you need a shot of tequila in order for these facts to truly sink in! We have an excellent bar, with 12 beers on tap, some great vodka, and of course, tequila! With today being National Tequila Day, we can't think of a better way to celebrate this wonderful holiday than by taking a shot at our very own bar!

Our Signature Mexican Dishes

Our restaurant is quickly becoming well known for our fantastic flavor and fun atmosphere! We have the best Mexican food at the Lake of the Ozarks. Conveniently located on the Bagnell Dam Strip, you can enjoy our delicious food while also enjoying a birds-eye-view of the Strip and all of the fun atmosphere that it brings. Here are a few of our signature dishes that you can enjoy when you come in.

Salsa Burrito

Our Salsa  burrito is a classic! It's stuffed with all of your favorite fillings and toppings. Plus it's made to order right in front of you. Our wonderful staff look forward to creating your new favorite burrito!

Nachos

Our nachos are served with hot corn or flour chips, and ready to be customized to your heart's content.

3 Tacos

Why settle for just one taco, when you can get three! Our tacos come with hard or soft shells and you can choose from corn, wheat or flour. Our fillings and toppings are the highlight of our meals! We have exceptional flavors just waiting to entice you.

Salad Bowl

The salad bowl features a foundation of fresh salad greens and can be customized any way you like!

Burrito Bowl

The burrito bowl is just as delicious as the burrito - the only difference is there is no tortilla! This is a wonderful gluten free option, with no skimping on flavor!

We have some wonderful fillings and toppings to offer you, from our deliciously seasoned white meat chicken to our ground beef - a local favorite! We also have some equally delicious and uncommon fillings such as our Barbacoa, which is derived from the Caribbean and has a wonderful blend of spices to entice the senses. Our Al Pastor is a traditional marinated pork that is bursting with flavor, it would make a delicious addition to any of our entrees! Between our great food and our fun atmosphere, there are always wonderful things happening at Salsa on the Strip. We would love to add a little SPICE to your weekend, come on down and try us for yourselves!

Top 3 Reasons to Visit Salsa on the Strip

Salsa on the Strip is one of the newest restaurants at the Lake and we have the best burritos at the Lake of the Ozarks! We've been here for just over a month and we've been getting fabulous reviews for this HOT new place! If you still need to get over here for an amazing Salsa Burrito, here are 3 reasons to give you a renewed hunger to come out!

Fresh Food

Our dishes are made from the freshest ingredients. We have worked hard to make sure your burrito is 100% amazing! Our dishes don't just stop at burritos, we have burrito bowls with the same fresh ingredients and fillings as the burrito, without the tortilla. Tacos with hard or soft shells, and corn, wheat or flour tortillas can also be found on our menu. Salad Bowls with fresh salad greens, ready to be topped with pure deliciousness offer a lighter option!

Great Drinks

We have the best bar at the Lake of the Ozarks and we're not afraid to boast. You can come get cold shots, delicious margaritas and refreshing beer on tap. A beautiful, birds-eye-view of the Bagnell Dam Strip waiting for you upstairs at our bar! We have TVs spread around upstairs which makes our bar the best place to watch the game at the Lake of the Ozarks. Happy is ANY hour at Salsa and our bar is ready to prove it to you!

Fun Atmosphere

The atmosphere of Salsa on the Strip makes us the most hip place to eat at the Lake of the Ozarks. Bright colors and fun furniture make our space welcoming and exciting! The lower level has TVs and an outside patio, while the upper level has the bar and the wonderful open patio in the sky! There are exciting fireplaces and waterfall fixtures around the patio and the atmosphere beckons you to have a great time!

Don't just take our word for it though! Come in a try our amazing food for yourselves. The common review is how GREAT our flavors are! We have worked hard to make our food cutting edge in burritos and our venue is one of the coolest at the Lake! Tonight is Hot Summer Nights and this would be the perfect time for you to come out and enjoy some HOT cars and HOT food!
